Private EWP Course

WHY:

Assist the process of ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and for those operators who operate a Mobile Elevated Work platform within the workplace
This course is a Health & Safety requirement and operators MUST be certified for using a EWP within the workplace as per the WorkSafe NZ "Best Practice Guide for Mobile EWP's". (BpG).

Course Length:

1 Machine = 3/4 of a day approx.   2 Machines = All day.

Pre-Requisites:

Operators must have a good understanding of both operation and knowledge with the machine (s) they are expected to use. Operators Must be over 15 years of age.

What is involved:

3 to 3.1/2 half hours theory session including an assessment paper. Followed by practical(s) on the required Elevated work platforms. (This is all competency based assessment).

Central Group in association with HIANZ and Skills is proud to offer this unit standard based course which has been
produced by the Hire Industry Association of New Zealand (HIANZ) and with assistance from WorkSafe NZ and the Elevating Platform Association of Australia (EWPA).

This is a recognized course and the units assessed are an accepted level of assessment.  
Our Assessor / Trainer, Paul Scoble, is a Skills approved assessor and the Skills ITO reports the units that are assessed in turn to NZQA. Paul has been involved with EWP's since 2005 and is a Registered Assesor with HIANZ.
  
Course Details:
This course has 3 parts to it:
1. A theory session.
2. A theory test  (open book) which has both multiple, true & false plus written questions.
NB: All Operators receive a HIANZ EWP safety handbook to keep whcih covers safe operation of EWPs.
3. Hands on practical assessment in the safe and efficient operation of the appropriate EWP/s etc.

Course Content Includes:
1. Types of EWP’s
2. Responsibilities of Operators and Owners
3. Safety Features, Controls and Operation.
4. Pre-operational Checks
5. Operation of EWP’s. 

EWP Theory component: (Prerequisite to Practical assessments)
1. 23966: Describe types of Elevated Work platforms (EWP’s) and legislative requirements for
their use. (This unit is a Theory based unit and takes about 3 - 4 hours to deliver)
(The above unit standard is compulsory and is a prerequisite to the following units below) 

EWP Practical components that may be assessed:
2. 23960: Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a self-propelled scissor lift EWP.
3. 23961: Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a truck mounted EWP. 
4. 23962: Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a self-propelled boom lift EWP.
5. 23963: Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a trailer mounted EWP. (Cherry Picker).
6. 23964: Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a vertical lift (personnel lift) EWP.


HIANZ Silver Card:
An operator who successfully completes the course will be registered by HIANZ and receive a Silver Card. This Wallet sized card will carry the operators photo and state classes of EWP they were assessed on. (Please note these cards take up to 2 weeks to process).
NOTE: A Refresher course is due every 3 years.   
  

NB: All Operators who attend will receive a comprehensive HIANZ manual on safe operation with EWPs.
